Dr. Sucandy Received Adjunct Professorship From Airlangga University School of Medicine in 2025

Best hospital for liver surgeryAirlangga University School of Medicine is one of the oldest and best medical school in Indonesia which has graduated almost 5000 medical doctors since its inception in early 1900. Historically, Airlangga University School of Medicine started as a medical school for Javanese doctors during period of Dutch colonialism in Indonesia, called NIAS (Nederlandsch-Indische Artsen School). It is also known as the second oldest medical school after STOVIA (School tot Opleiding van Inlandsche Artsen) in Jakarta (modern name: Universitas Indonesia), both of which were run by Dutch doctors and surgeons during early decades of the medical school. Now, Airlangga  University Hospital is the quaternary referral center for eastern part of Indonesia due to its sophisticated medical capability and its physical location in Surabaya, the second largest city in Indonesia with almost 20 million inhabitants.

In the past decades, many rising stars from Airlangga University Hospital were given opportunities to study abroad with goals of increasing their clinical competence and knowledge in Academic medicine before returning to Indonesia. International relationship in surgical education has been established with many leading centers and hospitals in Japan, Korea, China, India, Belgium, Netherlands and the United States. Many leading surgeons who had graduated from these programs are now heading various surgical subspecialty departments such as urology, orthopedic, neurosurgery, pulmonary medicine, and pediatric surgery. This collaboration has also driven academic productivity and scientific level within the University, bringing Airlangga University as the leading academic medical center in Asia Pacific. To date, Airlangga University is one of only six Surgery Departments that are accredited to run fellowship program in digestive surgery, after completion of general surgery residency training.

In 2025, Dr. Sucandy was given the Adjunct Professorship by Airlangga University School of Medicine, a very high honor, recognizing hisTop liver specialists medical and scientific excellence in Hepatopancreatobiliary and Robotic Digestive Surgery. It is important to note than Dr. Sucandy had also been inaugurated as a Professor Surgery by the University of Central Florida in the year of 2020. This new professorship affiliation also creates an opportunity for further scientific collaborations/exchanges to enhance transfer of knowledge between the two parties. Ceremonially on June 28th, 2025,  Dr. Sucandy was inaugurated as the Adjunct Professor of Surgery in front of Vice Rector- Professor Miftahussurur and Vice Dean- Dr. Hanik Hidayati, both of which were classmates of Prof. Dr. Sucandy in Medical School from 30 years ago. The inauguration ceremony was also attended by Prof. Dr. Ahmad Rhomdoni, the Chief of Head of Neck Surgery of Airlangga University Dr. Soetomo Hospital, Dr. Edwin Donordono, the Chair & Program Director for Department of Surgery of Airlangga University, and Profs. Dr. Isnin Anang and Apec Bachtiar the Interventional Pulmonologists of Airlangga University teaching hospital, among many others junior faculties.
